Tasting UnaGPT as Students - Submit Answers and Get AI Feedback

This documentation is designed to help teachers guide their students in using UnaGPT for submitting tasks, receiving AI-generated grades and feedback, and filing appeals on the Una platform.

Step 1: Login using a student account

Please refer to the guide titled User Login and Change Display Language.

Step 2: Entering a UnaGPT Virtual Classroom

  1. Click on the row titled “HKDSE Experience Lesson” to enter a virtual classroom.
  1. A popup window with task instructions will appear. Click the “x” button to dismiss it. To reopen, click on the task’s title as indicated in the green box.

Step 3: Selecting a subject example

  1. Click the task selector in the lower right corner and choose the subject you are interested in.
  1. Each task provides a list of curated student answers with varying performances.
    • The upper buttons allow you to download the sample images for trying out the OCR function (explained later)
    • The “Copy” buttons allow you to copy the corresponding sample answer in each row.

Using the OCR function to input text

If a student writes an answer on paper, use the OCR function to convert the image to text.

  1. Click the “OCR” button above the answer box.
  1. Input images by:
    • Clicking “Choose Files” to select files from your device.
    • Pasting from your clipboard after copying an image from another software.
  1. You will see the order & crop screen.
    • Red area: Indicates image order for text output. Drag images to reorder.
    • Blue area: Select the area of the image for OCR if it contains unnecessary parts. By default, the whole image will be used.
    • Green area: For non-touch devices, use zoom and pan buttons to adjust the view.
  1. Press “Perform OCR” to start processing. (May take time based on network conditions)
  1. Review the results. Use the left column (original images) to edit the OCR output. Click “Copy & Append” to add the result to the answer box.

Step 3: Submitting your answer

After entering your answer by typing or using the OCR function, click “Submit” and “Confirm” to submit the answer. You can switch to another task while waiting for AI evaluation.

Step 4: Check AI-Generated Grade and Feedback

In this demo session, AI grading and feedback are released immediately (Immediate Mode). You can refer to user guide teacher version – Step 3: Create activity content > Section: submission options for more information.

Each AI-marked answer includes a scoring breakdown and suggestions.

Linguistic error detection can be enabled based on the task setting on the teacher UI. When enabled, some extra components will be provided.

Remarks: Click on the underlined text to view the correction (if not hidden by the teacher in task settings) and justification of the linguistic error.

You can also see some summary and suggestions regarding the linguistic errors.

Correction Wizard

When long AI questions re-submission is still possible, the Correction Wizard helps students identify and correct certain types of mistakes before resubmitting.

  1. Click on the “Start” button to start the wizard. Alternatively, click “Exit” to dismiss the wizard and the original answer box will re-appear.
  1. Select the error types to correct. All types are selected by default.
  1. Navigate through errors using “Next” or by clicking highlighted errors.
  1. After editing, view the revised essay and click “Finish” to submit it again.

Filing an Appeal (Applicable for Immediate Mode Only)

If AI results are unexpected, students can file an appeal.

  1. Click the “File an Appeal” button
  1. Select questions to appeal and provide a reason. 
  1. Click “Submit” after filling in the Appeal Reason for all questions being appealed.

Remarks: Appeals cannot be filed for questions with full marks. After a teacher reviews the appeal, students will receive a notification on the main page and via email (if logged in using an email address).
