This course introduces the fundamentals of STEM using the micro:bit, covering coding basics, electronics, and sensor interactions. Engage with practical exercises to discover the micro:bit's versatile applications with sensors. Ideal for beginners, this course is a stepping stone to mastering technology and engineering principles.

Learning Objectives:

  • Create various micro:bit products with sensors (mainly Grove Sensors) using block coding
  • Apply principles of fair testing and debugging in practical engineering and science exercises
  • Understand and apply closed circuits, light sensors, ultrasonics, motors, and infrared sensing

Course Outline:

  • Basic micro:bit and pin (Compulsory) | Learn the basic function of microbit
  • Home Alarm System | Make a smart home alarm system by using ultrasonic ranger, speaker
  • Advanced exercise 1 | Parking system
  • Reaction Time Tester | Make a reaction time tester
  • Advanced exercise 2 | Complex testing machine
  • Hand-Gesture Controlled Fan | Make a controllable fan with rotary angle sensor, gesture sensor and motor
  • Advanced exercise 3 | Smart fanning system
  • Automatic Light System | Make automatic light system with light sensors and conduct fair test with different light sensors
  • Smart traffic light | Make smart traffic light by Infra-red (IR) Distance Interrupter and light strip
  • Advanced exercise 4 | Traffic light system
